High School Students
Zentangles are an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing patterns. Students learned about organic/geometric shapes and patterns, and how to create a clear focal point in their artwork. I introduced the unit with a Ted Talk video by Sunni Brown about the importance of doodling and how it can actually help you retain information. By encouraging students to loosen up and "just doodle" they were much less intimidated by this drawing project. Students had the option to use color if they wanted to; some used color to emphasize their art's focal point, while others decided to forgo color completely and leave it black and white. The flexibility in the project guidelines generated highly varied and creative results.
